Getting started

I know there isn't much here yet. But please add something. Try a search. If you don't find anything click 'create the page' and type in your article.

This is a shared resource that can only grow if people are willing to share information.

Thanks!

Welcome to a Patient's Communications tool!

Remember this is Patient to Patient. Not official medical advice, just what information patients are sharing. You need to speak with your physician to know what to do for you.

My hope is that this Wiki can be used to help patients suffering from a variety of ailments to better communicate about the things that doctors:

--Forget to tell you.

--Don't know.

--Don't want to know.

This site is not to be taken as medical advice. Rather this is the site where patients can communicate their experiences by creating Wiki entries to help others suffering the same trials and tribulations.

  • Food allergy sufferer who has discovered that you can't anything? Please share what you have been told. (I am also inviting companies to share 'safe' food information.) Remember, this site is a collaboration and you are still responsible for talking to your medical professionals - and double-checking everything you find out here.
    • Corn Allergy? It's in everything - not just food. Which companies have confirmed they have corn-free products?
    • Soy Allergy? Is it related to peanut allergy? Do you tolerate the oil?
    • Milk Allergy? Lactaid? Caseinate? Goat's milk? What do you do?
    • Aromas causing reactions? How do you cope?
  • Infertility success story? Please add information that may help someone else diagnose a difficult problem.
    • Endometriosis? Was it known all along or was it only diagnosed via a laparascopy and how did you deal with the prep?
    • High FSH? Anything unusual about that elevation that you found out?
    • Uterine Issues? What was recommended, what did you do?
  • Undiagnosed thyroid? How you were finally able to get your thyroid treated.
    • Misdiagnosed continually?
    • Blood test sufficient? Or did the doctor have to go further to find the issue?
  • Clinical Depression? What combination of therapy is working for you? If a given drug was too rough for you, what did you end up being able to take? Did counseling help more than the drugs or vice versa?
  • Diabetes? Coping strategies you have created for keeping it under control.
    • Which came first? Weight gain or diagnosis?
  • High Cholesterol?
  • Cancer survivor? (patient or patient's family)
    • What advice can you give to current patients - resources that have consistently been good.
    • Coping mechanisms that you have created.
  • Experiences with alternative medicine.
  • Please enter information about what you are dealing with. I want this to be your resource - not the doctors, official resource. Think of this as the place where the information that you consistently post on the various listservs, discussion forums, etc. that just keeps getting buried under more and more posts. From now on, you can point to ThePatientsWiki at Otherinfo.org.

I am hopeful that we can create a shared resource that all patients can use - no matter the illness. And maybe help find those elusive connections that seem to keep cropping up. Who knows, as healthcare gets more and more expensive, we might help you keep costs down by allowing you to more effectively communicate with your doctors.

    Pax,

    Melissa
